Radio Garden
Japanese Music ID - radio station
I do like this radio station, it has some good songs and some I know and I like how it sounds and the beat.
The genre of the show is an entertainment and a reviewing, since they talk after it and they play a lot of music and they do have talking but it's in Japanese, so I can't understand it.
The presenter is just talking about the songs, I think.
Cambridge USA
WXCS 92.9FM
I do sort of like it, since I do like classical music, but not all kinds of classical.
It's genre is entertainment, since there is only music playing.
There is no presenter.
I think that the target audience is older people, around 40-50 and people who do like classical music anyway.
Cambridge UK
Star Radio
I don't really like this radio station too much, this is because it doesn't really play the music I like and sometimes has good ones on there, but not very often.
It's genre is an entertainment show, since what i can hear is mainly and only just music.
The presenter sounds relaxed and doesn't have those awkward dead airs/silences.
I think the target audience is varied from sometimes teenagers but I think it's mostly for adults, around 20 maybe and 30-40
Cambridge 105
I don't really like this music either, this is for the same reason, that I don't know the songs but I don't think they sound very catchy.
I think that the genre is an entertainment and news show, since there is a presenter who talks about different things -so he was advertising, there is also a news reporter.
The presenter sounds happy, but not too happy and sounds energetic and the news reporter just sounds serious, since it is serious.
The target audience I would say that it's aimed at 20-40, since they sound like older songs.
Cam FM
I think that it sounds alright, I kind of like some of the songs, even though I don't know them and I would want to tell my friends about it since some of the lyrics make me laugh a bit.
I think that the genre is an entertainment show.
There was no presenter, from what I heard.
I think the target audience will be 16-30, since the songs don't sound like they come from the 80s or something similar to that.
All three of these radio stations Cambridge UK, Cambridge 105 and Cam FM, are of the entertainment genre, but play different songs for their target audiences. Such as how Cambridge UK plays songs that sounds like it would be aimed at people aged 30-40 and a lot of them I don't know, while Cambridge 105, plays songs which sound like they are for older people, because of tunes and once again I don't really know a lot of them and finally for Camb FM, they seem to play songs which teenagers would listen to and for this one, even though I don't know the song names or even the songs, I still sort of like the music they play and it also sounds like something a teenager would listen to. I think my favorite to listen to out of all three of them is radio Camb FM.

Interview of family member
General listening habits (what audio do they consume)I asked my dad and he said that the main way he listens to, is through CDs.
He does sometimes listen to the radio, it's mostly to listen to the football.
The stations he listens to is BBC Radio 5 Live and Radio Cambridgeshire.
He said that he listens to the radio on weekends about 3pm onwards.
I think that my family member does fit the radio Cambridgeshire profile. This is because my dad is a male, like on the profile, he lives in Cambridgeshire, not exactly in Cambridge, however he also used to play football, but he is older than the radio Cambridgeshire profile, so now he can't but in the profile the person does play football and my dad listens to music a lot, everyday and the profile has someone who listens to it, quite a lot. My dad doesn't listen to it in the car, mostly at home and not throughout the week like in the profile, both the profile and my dad listen to Cambridgeshire radio and since they both listen to two radio stations mainly, it's the ones they like the most and the Cambridgeshire radio is what they have in common out of both of the radio stations they listen to.
Production Process
D.)
Making a package
To make a radio package you first need to work out what the story is, otherwise the people you are interviewing won't know and you won't know. Then you think about the questions you want to ask, once you decide, you then plan on where you will be going to ask the questions and then you plan who you are going to talk to, so you would plan to ask the people who run the market stores and the people who come to the market to buy stuff, the consumer. Then when you're about to go there, you check your mic and equipment always before you go somewhere. After you are done interviewing, you listen to all of the interview recordings and then you can pick the ones you like for the package. Then you record what you are going to say before the interviews and you can clip the clips, so you can get the parts you need or if you need to make it shorter. Then you give it to your editor for sign off.
What does an assistant manager do
First you go into the studio early and check whats going on in the world, to check that they have got it all and have covered everything. Then when they are recording, talking on the radio, they are the people who say "Just a quick recap of what's happening so far on the show" and they also say "Theres more to come but so far" so they just help out with the talking on the radio. Then they go to meetings to talk about next week, so they know what they will talk about on the radio before then.
How to make talk radio
They mainly use computers for this. Then the boss known as the program director, goes in and puts through all of the music spots, commercial spots, talking spots and anything else that goes across the radio. Then they do show prep, you have to prep what you are going to say on the radio before you do it, otherwise you're not going to know what's going to come out of your mouth. on the computer they have a clock and it lets them know what times they have on, so it would say that you are on at 7 o'clock, 7:30, 8:30 and so on. So you put together the clock in a word document, so next to each time you're talking, you put what you're talking about. They also have a website where you can listen to things live and they have advertisements on there and other stuff. They find it important to blog and talk to their listeners, they have this so if you're not listening to the radio, you can join in online. They have an on air studio, which is where they record it live, you have a button box, so you can play laughing and other sound effects, you can drag the sounds on the computer, so it will play straight after a song or you can click on it to play it whenever you want to. You talk while the music is playing, so you use the mic so you can talk while you play it and you can turn it down and then afterwards you can turn it back up so you don't suddenly stop the music.
Market share
E.)
The current trend in market share is that it is going down. The reason for this trend could be that Spotify came out in 2010 and because they can update it, they can change lots of different things about it to make it better, whereas with the radio you can change it like you can with an app.
The trend over the last 15 years in market share has gone up and down but doesn't go up drastically it goes up a bit to then just go down quite a lot and it seems to be doing this quite a lot in this graph. But currently it is not at it's lowest so it hasn't disappeared yet, however if it continues to keep going down it might. A possible reason for this trend could be from the fact that smart phones are changing and have more apps to listen to music on and they can play whatever they want, whenever they want.
One of the things that happened in the industry during the time of it's highest point of weekly audience, was the fact that there weren't many smart phones or at least as many music apps, so they would listen to the radio when they are out and about and they could play it on various things. However at it's lowest point, that is when more music apps and smart phones came out, since you can play your music anywhere and however many times you want and as people got used to using them and when they keep updating it they would like it more, leading to radio gradually going down but then up due to things music apps don't have like sports.
